About the artist

Former attorney Nathan Sawaya gained national attention in 2004 by winning The LEGO Group's nationwide search for a professional Master Model Builder. His creations in the years since have resulted in enormous artistic and popular success. His exhibitions have won him critical acclaim, earned him a wide range of high profile commissions and resulted in appearances on TV shows and news programs including The Today Show, Late Night with David Letterman, The Colbert Report and CBS Sunday Morning. He was recently featured on the popular quiz show Jeopardy! with a category titled "The LEGO Artistry of Nathan Sawaya." The Art of the Brick museum shows are currently touring in North America, Asia and Australia, with some venues hosting their second and third showings. Sawaya has broken the norm on traditional art expressionism and touched the hearts of millions world-wide, both young and old.

Following closely on the heels of the hugely successful Beyond the Frame: Impressionism Revisited, the Wooten Committee has every expectation that The Art of the Brick will be eagerly anticipated throughout the state and beyond and will become another record-breaking experience for the Arts Council and the community. This will be the first time The Art of the Brick will be in North Carolina! The broad appeal of this small construction toy for adults as well as children, together with Sawaya's ability to make it into something meaningful and inspirational, presents every opportunity for success.
