Welcome Spring with Huckleberry Finn & the Birdhouses on Parade Welcome in the Spring with the Arts Council! Please join us for a day that will delight your senses. First, we will venture to the Carolina Inn of Chapel Hill to view “Birdhouses on Parade”, a wonderful display of one-of-a-kind birdhouses and feeders crafted by North Carolina artisans. Next, enjoy the charm of Chapel Hill’s Franklin street for lunch and shopping on your own. Then, we will be mesmerized as we watch Huck and Jim travel down the mighty Mississippi and into the American spirit in the Playmakers production “Big River”- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Depart 11:00 am- Arrive Home: 5:00pm Cost: $40 members / $45non-members (Registration deadline is April 13, 2011)

Blandwood House & Afternoon Tea at the O’Henry Hotel Join us for “History and Tea” as we leave the Captain White House in Graham for Greensboro’s beautiful and historic Blandwood House. You will be guided by trained docents, who will take you through the restored main building including the 1795 farmhouse section, the 1822 addition, and the 1846 A.J. Davis Italiante addition. Next, we will enjoy Afternoon Tea at the O’Henry Hotel. The Metropolitain Opera is now offering their “The Met: Live in HD series in Greensboro at the Regal Grande Cinema! Join us for this short trip to experience the Met close to home…Live! All Trips will depart from the Alamance County Arts Council approximately one hour prior to the show. April 23, 2011: Strauss’s Capriccio. Show Time: 1:00 pm (Expected Running time: 3 hours) On Opening Night of the 2008–09 season, Renée Fleming dazzled audiences when she sang the final scene of Strauss’s wise and worldly meditation on art and life. Now she performs the entire work, in which the composer explores the essence of opera itself.
April 30, 2011: Verdi’s Il Trovatore. Show Time: 1:00 pm (Expected Running time: 3 hours). David McVicar’s stirring production of Verdi’s intense drama premiered in the 2008–09 season. James Levine leads this revival, starring four extraordinary singers—Sondra Radvanovsky, Dolora Zajick, Marcelo Álvarez, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky—in what might be the composer’s most melodically rich score.
