Beyond the Frame
Impressionism Revisited
The Sculptures of J.Seward Johnson, Jr.

Here It Comes...with a really BIG Surprise!

As we have been promising for months, something big is coming. We just didn’t know how BIG! We are on schedule for the arrival of the J. Seward Johnson Beyond the Frame exhibition for the week of July 25, but before that... comes the BIG surprise. The Seward Johnson Sculpture Foundation has decided to send us one of Johnson’s new MONUMENTAL pieces. Ours will be a 20 FOOT TALL!!! re-creation of Pierre Auguste Renoir’s Dance at Bougival. Titled A Turn of the Century, it is to be sited in our new parking lot, close to the street, where it will announce to all that something of great importance is happening at the Captain White House. The installation crew arrives on July 7. A crane will be delivered to the site, the truck with the MONUMENTAL will arrive and installation will begin on July 8. Installation will continue through July 10. You are welcome to come by and join in the fun of watching this all unfold. This extraordinary addition to an already outstanding exhibition is being made possible by The Sculpture Foundation with whom we have been working to bring Beyond the Frame to Alamance County. It is indeed the icing on the cake. And then on July 25, the trucks begin to role in with the 12 exhibition pieces including the 14 figure Luncheon of the Boating Party, and the multi-piece educational center. Picture taking and viewing from afar are allowed. It is really a lot of fun to see the figures being unloaded and moved about the grounds by a forklift. We will be ready to open the exhibition to members and the public on Saturday, July 30 at 9:00 am. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9am-5pm and Sundays, 1pm-5pm through October 31. We have terrific activities planned including plein air painting buckets for creating in the out-of-doors, a photography contest, activity books for children, scavenger hunts for family fun, lectures, a bus trip and so much more. You can find out all about these at the exhibition and in the August issue of the Newsletter. So...it is with the greatest pleasure that the Wooten Family Fund of the Alamance County Arts Council presents Beyond the Frame: Impressionism Revisited...coming to YOUR Arts Council, August, September and October. ENJOY!
