Volunteer at the Alamance Arts Council
Volunteer for the Arts!
Volunteers at the Alamance County Arts Council take pride in representing the central arts agency in Alamance County. Staff and members value volunteers because they provide fresh ideas, insight, enthusiasm and a melting pot of knowledge and skills. Examples of volunteer roles include, but are not limited to: greeting visitors at the Captain White House, assisting with administration projects, staffing various performances and special events, assisting with fund raising projects, and providing assistance in the daily operation of the Arts Council.
How to volunteer at the Arts Council
You may contact Linda Harris, LindaHarris@triad.rr.com or phone the Arts Council at 336-226-4003 for information regarding volunteering. Below is a list of volunteer jobs you may wish to consider.
Artists' Receptions, gallery openings and fundraising events
Docents chair gallery openings, prepare food for receptions and serve as committee members for our fundraising events: Beaux Arts Ball, Alamance a la Carte, Christmas at Captain White’s, Artful Afternoon Luncheon and Lecture Series, and Urban Golf.
Docents
Docents are an essential part of the Arts Council because they allow us to keep regular business hours for the Gallery and Picasso, our retail gift shop. With regular hours, we can attract the top artists in the community to exhibit in our exhibition and retail galleries. Docents will work in the gallery during the day welcoming patrons as they come in, answering questions about the current exhibit and the work of artists in the gift shop. Docents will process the sale of artwork (i.e. writing up the sales receipt, handling credit cards, making change, etc.). Occasionally docents will need to answer the phone and take messages while the staff is out of the office. Docents may work in pairs in 3-hour shifts 10:00 AM- 1:00PM, and 1:00 PM- 4:00PM, Monday through Friday.
